Build Your Base: The 5 Lifts That Matter Most

Build Your Base: The 5 Lifts That Matter Most

Every program, every physique, every PR traces back to the same five movements. Master these and everything else is accessories.

  1. The Squat — The king of the lower body. Full depth, braced core, knees tracking over toes. Start with goblet squats if the bar feels heavy — the pattern matters more than the plates.

2. The Deadlift — Nothing builds total-body strength like picking heavy things off the floor. Keep the bar close, hinge at the hips, and treat every rep like a max attempt — tight from the floor up.

3. The Bench Press — The upper-body benchmark. Shoulder blades pinned, feet planted, bar path slightly diagonal. Leave your ego out of it: full range beats half-rep bravado every time.

4. The Overhead Press — The most honest lift in the gym. No leg drive, no momentum — just you against gravity. It builds shoulders that look strong because they are strong.

5. The Row — For every push, pull. Barbell rows balance your bench, protect your shoulders, and build the back that fills out a GymBase tee.

How to start: pick 3 days a week. Squat every session. Alternate deadlift and bench as your second lift. Add presses and rows as accessories. Add a little weight every week and eat like you mean it.

Train hard. Stay grounded. This is your base.
